In the Midst of the Stroms, A Rock

Dear Friend of Creation Moments,

“And the rains descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock.”

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have come and gone. In their wake is destruction. Many people have suffered loss. Some people have been devastated.

The storms of life come and go.

What’s the modern equivalent to building your house upon the rock? I’ll tell you.  It’s the same as it was when Jesus spoke the parable:

“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house upon the rock.”

Today we build houses on concrete slabs—modern-day rocks. And when hurricane Rita was threatening Texas and Louisiana, those with houses on concrete slabs felt far safer than those in mobile homes. They were less inclined to evacuate before the storm.

Life on a rock gives far greater security than life on anything else.

Creation teaching arguably is the firm foundation for everything else. In order to accept Christ and His Word (the “Rock” on which to build our lives) we must first accept God the Creator Almighty. This is why the apostle Paul preached to the Greeks the way he did on Mars Hill.

In order to let the Scriptures work their maximum benefit and produce fruit in our lives, we must believe that all the Scripture is true. Too many Christians pick and choose what they want to believe in the pages of the Bible. They are happy to select the Scriptures they like, but discount those they don’t like.

Rather than being conformed to the image of God, they develop God in their own image.

Creation Moments proclaims evidence for the literal truth of the Bible and the truth of creation. Why? Because only God’s truth offers a firm foundation to weather all the storms of life.

Look again at Christ’s parable about different house foundations in the storms, and the key He gives us for wise and successful living:

“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts upon them…”

My greatest testimony has been the power of the Word of God in my life. My success or failure in virtually everything I have ever done is directly proportional to my application of the wisdom and truth of the Scriptures.

As a science and engineering major in college, and later as a working scientist, I learned that there are many weaknesses of evolutionism and many strengths of the biblical model of origins.  Through the work of Creation Moments, I gained confidence to believe all Scripture as my ultimate authority for living.

Hearing and acting upon the Word of God sets our foundation upon the rock. Before we can hear and act, we need to believe the Word of God is true. We can’t just pick and choose which truths we will follow.

Evolution and Cultural Relativism

Moral and cultural relativism are like sand. By definition, they shift every which way possible. Evolutionism, like relativism, is by definition change from one form to another.

Those people whose worldviews rest on evolution have nothing firm to rest upon in the day of trouble.  They believe evolving standards, like evolving life-forms, are the norm, the truth.

Standing upon a foundation of evolution, truth becomes only as deep and as sure as the minds of the current generation, who interpret the previous generations. As Francis Schaeffer observed, “If there are no absolutes by which to judge man, then man is absolute.”

Today, law schools and judges teach and rule in terms of sociological and variable law. They think all has evolved, is evolving, and is therefore relative.

As a result, many churches today feel like it is harder than ever to proclaim absolute truth. The popular thinking of the culture, and of many church-going people and pastors themselves, is that truth is relative.

Many Applications, One Interpretation

There may be many methods and personalities among the heroes of Christian history, but when it comes down to it there is only “one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all.”

There may be many “applications” of Biblical Scripture, but there is one true “interpretation.”

I love it when the Lord reveals to me a special, personal application of a particular verse in the Bible—perhaps something that I’ve read repeatedly for years, or remembered for years, but just didn’t have the occasion in life for it to be very real to me.

Then, ZAP!

All of a sudden the words explode with relevance in a way I never realized before. It’s like the two men on the road to Emmaus, who walked and talked with the resurrected Christ, who didn’t recognize Him until finally he took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them.

The light bulbs finally went on in their heads and they saw the truth.

The riches of God’s Word are available to one and all. But we have to spend time with the Scriptures. We have to be motivated by the conviction that the Scriptures are right, and true, and good for us.

Evolutionism, and the resulting cultural and moral relativism of our day, undermine this conviction.

Storms come in all varieties. Even hurricanes Katrina and Rita were different in shape, movement, strength and effects.

But no matter what the storm in life is, the one truth whose foundation is totally secure, the Rock who is the Rock of Ages, is Jesus Christ. The shifting sands of evolution can’t begin to compare to the Rock of creation.

Creation Moments faithfully, purposefully, and effectively proclaims to the world the evidence to refute the many just-so stories of evolutionism. Creation Moments stands strong for the eternal truths and great commission of God’s Word.

We will not waver, but will continue to steadily and faithfully build our ministry on the Rock. Like a beacon, from this vantage point we will continue to faithfully shine the light of truth, so that others will be drawn to it also.

Won’t you please help us? We are so grateful for partners like you who support this vital message of the church at large. But we cannot continue without your help. Coming out of the summer season our funds are very low. After the hurricanes and all the disaster relief, giving is down.

The ministry of Creation Moments is needed more than ever, as people re-evaluate their lives in the midst of crises, and yearn in their heart-of-hearts to be able to believe in God their Savior.

Please pray for Creation Moments, and please give to advance this unique ministry, so critical in our day and time.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Yours in Christ,

Mark Cadwallader, Chairman
